Description
Auckland is built on ancient volcanic landscape, flanked
on each side by the sea. The city boasts large shopping
malls, movie theatres and attractions to entertain visitors.
Shane Global Village is located in an elegant Edwardian-style
building. The school opened in 1999 and among the facilities
available for students are 14 classrooms, 3 student common
rooms, a multimedia computer lab and free Internet and
e-mail.
Accommodation
The School offers advice to students to assist them in
finding accommodation. Among the various options is the
family homestay program, which gives students the possibility
of living in a family environment, with families who are
carefully selected. The program offers full board, private
rooms, laundry and access to television and telephones.
Another option is renting a room in student residences,
hotels or renting out an apartment for a slightly longer
period of time.
Academics
The Centre offers General English courses, based on conversation
and comprehension, grammar and vocabulary. The teachers
at the school are also available for individual or tutoring
lessons, according to the individual needs of each student.
Business English courses are also offered, aimed at students
wishing to perfect their English (an intermediate level
is required) and acquire terms and notions related to
the business world.
Other very popular courses are the exam courses, preparing
students for Cambridge, FCE (First Certificate of English),
CAE (Certificate of Advanced English), CPE (Certificate
of Proficiency in English), TOEFL (Test of English as
a Foreign Language) and IELTS (International English Language
Testing System). The school also has special programs
aimed at overseas students who wish to attend an Australian,
Canadian or New Zealand high school or university.
Activities
The Center has an Activities Coordinator who organizes
different activities for each day. This Coordinator also
goes along on the weekend outings and excursions with
the students. These activities allow students to explore
the city, its museums, sporting and cultural events, as
well as participate in sporting activities and start new
friendships in an organized and safe environment. They
are also free or very affordable and include
mountain bike tours, rock climbing, weekend dinners and
trips, visits to the zoo, the aquarium and the city markets
and shopping malls.
