Description
The School was established in 1969 and is found in the
middle of downtown Christchurch. It is known for its friendly
atmosphere, allowing students to feel right at home. The
school has a full kitchen where students can prepare simple
meals or have tea or coffee. It also has a library, a
study hall and a recreation area equipped with pool tables,
a piano (for those brave enough to play) and a computing
area with free Internet and e-mail access.
Accommodation
The family homestay program is a very popular and convenient
accommodation choice offered by the School, as it provides
students with a very welcoming and friendly environment.
Families provide breakfast and dinner on week days and
include lunch on weekends and public holidays.
Another option is renting a furnished apartment that can
be shared with other students. Some even provide a cleaning
service once a week. Hostels are more economic and offer
single rooms with breakfast included.
Academics
There are programs with 8 different levels of English,
which can be taken on a full time basis or for only half
a day. Besides these, students can take tutoring lessons
to focus on certain aspects of the language.
English courses combining other activities such as diving,
water sports, golf, horse riding, sailing or rugby are
very convenient as well as entertaining.
For those seeking a higher level of English there are
English Business courses that provide students with the
vocabulary and activities associated with the working
world. The traditional international exams are also prepared
at the school. These include: TOEFL, Cambridge Preliminary,
Cambridge First, and Cambridge Advanced.
Activities
At Dominion activities are focused on helping students
get to know New Zealanders and enjoy the experiences of
sharing moments with other cultures. Each week social
events such as outings to restaurants, bars and parks
in the area are organized, as well as participating in
sports such as diving and sailing.
Besides, there are also wine tasting courses available
and visits to vineyards all at very affordable prices.
