Visas
for New Zealand: there are different types
of visas for those wishing to visit New Zealand,
which depend on the reasons for the visit and for
how long one is planning to stay. The most sought
after visas include student
visas, limited
purpose visas, residence
visas, work visas and
tourist visas.
Student
Visas: this type of visa is granted according
to the duration of the course you are taking in
New Zealand. In order to obtain this visa you will
need to forward the following documents to the New
Zealand Immigration Service:
-A completed and signed “Application to Study
in New Zealand”
-The application fee
-Your passport, valid until at least 3 months past
the date you plan to leave New Zealand and a recent
passport size photograph.
-Evidence of your financial support while in New
Zealand.

of residence.
If the course you are taking lasts less than 3 months,
you must also present evidence of having paid for
accommodation and a letter from the institution
you are taking the course at, outlining the program
details.
For people studying for more than 2 years, a completed
“Medical and X-Ray Certificate Form"
must also be presented, and if you are aged 17 or
over you are required to provide a police certificate
from your country of citizenship and from any country
in which you have lived for 5 years or more since
attaining the age of 17.
Limited
Purpose Visas: This visa has been designed
to facilitate the entry of visitors and students
who choose to enter New Zealand for an express purpose
only and who would normally not be accepted for
temporary entry because of a risk that they may
remain in New Zealand after their visa has expired.
An express purpose includes studying in New Zealand
(short-term courses), attending an event such as
a wedding, funeral, conference, seminar, graduation
or other significant ceremony, sports tournament,
religious events, medical treatment or family emergencies
such as illnesses or accidents affecting a family
member of the applicant in New Zealand.
It is important to keep in mind the fact that those
obtaining this visa must leave New Zealand before
it expires and will not be permitted to apply for
another visa while in the country.
Residence
Visas: these visas allow successful applicants
to live, study and work in New Zealand indefinitely.
In order to obtain this visa you must complete and
send a series of forms to the New Zealand Immigration
Service. Hiring an agent or representative to submit
these documents is a valid option.
There are three main categories for residence visa
applications: A. General Skills
Category: based on a points system. Points
are granted for various factors such as age, study
and work experience. B. Business Category:
designed for those wishing to set up a business
or to invest in New Zealand. C. Family Category:
These visas are for those who are married to a New
Zealand citizen or resident who sponsors that application.
These visas also apply to those with immediate family
members who are New Zealand citizens or residents
and who live there permanently.
Each year, a certain number of people, who don’t
qualify for residence under any other category,
are chosen by ballot to be considered for residence
in New Zealand.
Work
Visa: in order to obtain a work visa, the
applicant must send the New Zealand Immigration
Service the following documents:
-A completed signed application form
-The application fee.
-A passport that is valid until at least 3 months
past the date planned for leaving New Zealand.
- A recent passport size photograph.
-Evidence of financial support while in New Zealand.
- A return ticket to applicant’s country of
residence or origin.
Regarding the job, the applicant must present information
on the employer, a job description including tasks
and duties, a confirmation by the employee mentioning
the job, salary to be earned and conditions agreed
to, term of the employment contract and proof that
the applicant is qualified and sufficiently experienced
in order to fulfill his responsibilities on the
job.
Tourist
or Visitor’s Visas: this is a visa
for those wishing to visit the country as tourists,
visit family or friends, study for no more than
3 months (in this case it is not necessary to apply
for a student visa) or participate in a sports tournament
or competition. Among the countries whose citizens
are exempt from the requirement to hold a tourist
or visitor’s visa if they’ll be staying
for less than 3 months are Argentina, Brazil, Chile,
México y Uruguay. Citizens of these countries
must show a return ticket to their place of origin,
enough funds for support throughout the stay and
a passport which is valid until at least 3 months
past the date planned for leaving New Zealand.
