Description
Richmond is a small area located 10 minutes away from
Nelson’s city center. A few minutes walk away, one
can visit the parks and gardens surrounding the city and
climb small hills, providing visitors with a view of the
city from higher up. The Richmond population doesn’t
exceed 7000 inhabitants; the locals know each other and
greet each other on the street. Life in Nelson is totally
safe and peaceful. Richmond Hills School offers courses
the whole year round, in a relaxed atmosphere and with
fun and educational teaching techniques.
Accommodation
Students usually stay with host families that live nearby
the School, only a few minutes’ walk away. Families
are carefully selected and all host a student every year,
from different countries.
Academics
The most sought after courses are the General English
courses. Classes have no more than 5 students and last
for between 2 and 48 weeks, according to student requirements.
Business English courses are also offered, for students
at an intermediate level of English where terms and constructions
used in the business world are taught.
International exams are also prepared for at Richmond:
FCE, CAE, IELTS and TOEFL. Courses last for 12 weeks.
Activities
Just 10 minutes away from Richmond, are the beaches of
Rabbit Island, an unbelievable place for water sports
and for enjoying typical New Zealand dishes. A little
further, 20 minutes away, are famous Kaiteriteri and Marahau
beaches.
Nelson hosts various festivals throughout the year, which
students scan enjoy among others, the Nelson Jazz Festival,
Sealord Summer Festival and the Chamber Music Festival
where typical New Zealand bands can be heard.
